RICK LAUBACH

Rick "Scooby" Laubach will make the trip to Syracuse with the owners of the #7 car that Keith Hoffman ran at Grandview. The "Quaker Shaker" will attempt to pull off the win for us PA Cowpatties!
Jamie from ClubWago reports:
#20 Rick Laubach- “Scooby” has come very close to pulling off a win at Syracuse the last few years in both big and small block competition, but gas mileage has cost him the victory every time. This year, Laubach returns to the mile with his own team for the first time since 2002, having driven for Dieter Schmidt and Dick Biever since that time. Laubach, a regular at Big Diamond and New Egypt, is lining up a big time sponsor that will debut at Syracuse.(Brent Smith photo)

RYAN GODOWN

#26 Ryan Godown- The Big Diamond Raceway and Grandview Speedway regular, who won $10,000 at Grandview’s Forrest Rogers Memorial race earlier this year, will be back on the mile with the same car he’s driven there the past 2 years. The Ringoes Rocket, after blowing their good big block motor at Bridgeport Speedway in a mid-week special, was forced to completely re-build his big block for Super Dirt Week. Godown will be racing at Super Dirt Week in memory of the co-owner of his #26 big block modified, Gregg Schatzel, who passed away in late July at the young age of 38. As reported from Jamie at ClubWago!

NORM'S 357!

This is a GREAT pic from Bruce Thomas of the Norm Hansell #357x driven by Tom Umbenhauer at the Freedom 76. It's not often you get a cool overhead shot like this!

JIMMY HORTON

Here is Jimmy Horton aboard the Biever #14H at Grandview last weekend. Jimmy and Doug Manmiller will be teammates when they head north to Syracuse for Super Dirt Week! I recieved confirmation from Josh Biever that the Manmiller car will carry the number #14M on the brand new skin! Josh said the car was just lettered and looks really sharp! Josh is trying to get me a picture of the car so keep checking back for an update!
ClubWago update:
#14 Jimmy Horton- After a slow start to the season, Horton has dominated the middle and late stages of the season on both the Tri-Track Tour, and at Bridgeport Speedway. For Super Dirt Week, car owner Dick Biever has rewarded him with a brand new everything, car and motor, for an assault on Super Dirt Week. After coming so close to winning in 2006, Horton struggled for Grosso Racing in 2007, and driving for Randy Ross in 2008. Expect Horton to return to the front of the field this season with a team that’s run very well on the mile in the past with former driver Rick Laubach. (Brent Smith photo)

DOUG MANMILLER

Doug Manmiller had his strongest run of the season in the Freedom 76 at Grandview last weekend. Doug was knocking on Meme Desantis' door in the final laps. Here is Doug aboard the the Breitenstein #14. Doug will be headed to Syracuse with the Dick Biever #14.
ClubWago update:
#14D Doug Manmiller- The Grandview and Big Diamond regular will return to Super Dirt Week after a 4 year absence, with the best equipment he’s ever gone with. Manmiller will attend as a teammate to Jimmy Horton aboard a second Dick Biever owned big block, with just a handful of races on both the car and motor. Look for Manmiller's number to probably end up being 00.

CRAIG VON DOHREN

Craig Von Dohren Joins PPB Racing For 2010 Schedule of 358-Modified & Big-Block Modified Racing

OLEY, PA - It's official: Craig Von Dohren will join Bob Greene's Pioneer Pole Buildings operation for 2010.

Von Dohren, 46, of Boyertown, Pa., and PPB Racing have set plans for weekly 358-Modified racing at Grandview Speedway (Bechtelsville, Pa.) and Big Diamond Raceway (Forestville, Pa.) in addition to select Penn-Jersey area big-block Modified specials.

Billy Pauch Jr. of Frenchtown, N.J., returns to 2010 PPB lineup running a schedule that mirrors his '09 agenda.

Von Dohren's cars will utilize his trademark No. 1c. The chassis brand will be Teo-Pro with power supplied by Wide Open Technologies of Douglassville, Pa.

"I'm very pleased to have Craig as a part of our team," said Greene, the proprietor of Schuylkill Haven, Pa.-based Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. "He will bring a vast amount of knowledge to our team and will be a great asset.

"I am more impressed with the person Craig is off the track. If you surround yourself with good people, you become part of that environment. I have a race team that is full of good people and Craig fits that mold. He is super-competitive on the track and is a wonderful person and father away from the track. To me, that is more important than any racing accomplishment."

Von Dohren is looking forward to starting his 31st season as a member of PPB Racing.

"Bob is a successful businessman and he's built a solid team," offered Von Dohren. "I'm appreciative for the opportunity to join Billy at PPB Racing."

CVD offered thanks to the car owners Mike Harvey (Big Diamond and big-block) and Chad Sinon (Grandview) who provided their support in '09. Von Dohren will finish out this season driving for Harvey.

"I have to thank Mike Harvey for what he's done for me over the years," Von Dohren said. "He's been there for me and I appreciate that. The same goes for Chad Sinon. He's given me all the right equipment."

Greene's operation offers the opportunity for Von Dohren to do all his racing under one umbrella.

"As a driver, racing for one team is the best-case scenario," Von Dohren said. "With Bob, I'll be able to do that."

Von Dohren brings sponsors Kauffman's Bar-B-Que Chicken, Felty Farms, Sharman Builders, Missy's Crafts and BFP Specialty to the PPB team. Further sponsorship support is pending.

Jason Bashore remains on board as Von Dohren's crew chief and the small-block equipment will be maintained at Von Dohren's shop in Oley, Pa.

Greene's goals for '10 are simple.

"We want to have fun," Greene said. "Win or lose, we will be successful."

Brightbill will be teaming up with former car-owner Ray Carroll for an assault on Syracuse. SYRACUSE BIG WHEEL RACES!

Wait till Captain Ron hears that he will be representing Cowpatty Nation in the Big Wheels races at SDW!
Hope to see everyone at the Club Wago pop-up on Friday night of Super Dirt Week. We'll have a DJ, sponsored by Brightbill Racing, and will also have the Wago Juice flowing, we'll have Brett Graham's Club Wago sponsored 358 modified on display, and will also have adult big wheel races!
The DJ will start playing around 8:00 on Friday. Last year we had around 200 people show up and had a great time. Drivers such as Ryan Phelps, Al Rudalavage, Nick Rochinski, Kyle Weiss, Rick Laubach, Roger Phelps, Mark Flach, Wayne Jelley, Frank Cozze Jr, Kenny Brightbill, Brad Brightbill, Dom Buffalino, and many more were partying with us too!
As for the adult big wheel races, we're still looking for more big wheels! We've got at least 3 going up, but want as many as possible. You don't need a big wheel to participate, everyone who participates will share big wheels. We'll have qualifying events until we're down to the same amount of big wheels and teams left (for instance, if we only get 3 big wheels, the "feature" will be when there are only 3 teams left.) Each team must have a driver, and a pusher, so 2 people per teams. We're going to set up an oval track, the number of laps will be determined by the amount of big wheels we get!
Hope to see lots of people enter the big wheel race, we'll have prizes for the winners! The big wheel races will start around 11:00 pm, and all competitors must be there at 11 so we know how many teams we have playing.Hope to see lots of you out there, should be a good time! We'll be set-up right outside of the backstretch tunnel!

DIAMOND NATIONALS!

HISTORY BOOKS MIGHT BE REWRITTEN THIS WEEKEND AT THE DIAMOND NATIONALS
Gary Lileck
Forestville, PA - September 24, 2009 - History could be altered this upcoming weekend at Big Diamond Raceway. Two of the speedway's top drivers are currently locked in a tie for most overall feature wins in track history. A pair of high dollar 50-lap features shall give each the opportunity to cheriesh the bragging rights for next season.
Main event wins have been recorded since the track's birth in 1972. Currently two active drivers, Craig Von Dohren of Boyertown and Duane Howard of Oley, are tied with a total of 65 overall feature triumphs.
Von Dohren began his Big Diamond career as a 16 year old rookie in 1980. After a few months, Von Dohren captured his first career win in 1980, which earned him the right to represent the speedway in the illustrious Syracuse (NY) race that year. Since 1980, Von Dohren has enjoyed 26 winning seasons (which is a track record) and all 65 of his wins have taken place in the SBM division.
After spending some time in a Limited Late Model, Duane Howard bought a Modified and went racing at the tail of 1986. He scored his first BDR win in June of 1987. Howard has savored 19 winning seasons at the speedway. His accomplishment sheet contains 63 Small Block feature victories and a pair of Big Block Modified wins.
A pair of Modified features will be held this weekend as part of the Lanids C. Deck and Sons Site Contractors/Yuengling - America's Oldest Brewery Diamond Nationals. The Big Block feature (Saturday September 26) will go a distance of 50-laps, paying $5000 to win. An Open Competition Small Block Modified main event (Sunday September 27) carries the exact same distance and first place prize money. Von Dohren and Howard are two of an entire host of possible winners in the each event.
The ARDC Midgets make their second appearance of the season on Saturday's card, taking part in a 20-lap feature. Frank Polimeda of Fort Lee NJ won the previous race this year in March. As a matter of fact, Polimeda is a three-time BDR career winner. The versatile racer recently took advantage of some extra practice time, as he steered a 358 Modified late in the season.
Traditionally, the Roadrunners have staged an open competition event in the Diamond Nationals. This year's version is no exception. On Saturday, the Extreme Roadrunners (open to four barrel carbs, headers, eight inch tires, and camaros are allowed to compete; No Alcohol permitted) are taking part in a big event.
The 20-lap Extreme Roadrunner feature pays $500 to win and has already generated attention from race teams. Some of the interested drivers who plan to attend include: Kevin Olenick (the 2009 track champion), Kirby Sites, Kody Sites, Tyler Vidal, Butch Lesher, Cory Baver, and Mike Kiehl among other track regulars and invaders.
Completing the five-division show (during the two-day duration) is the Sportsman class. The Sportsman feature is 25-laps, which pays $1200 to win.
Competitors at Big Diamond Raceway are reminded that transponders (which can be rented at the track) and radios are mandatory on race day. Rule questions may be directed to the track office phone number of 570-385-0744.
On Saturday gates will open at 3:30PM, warm-ups commence at 5:30PM, and qualifying begins at 6:00PM. Pit admission is $35, a grandstand ticket costs $25, and kids 12 & under are free. On Sunday, gates open at 2:30PM, warm-ups start at 4:30PM, and qualifying begins at 5:00PM. Pit admission is $30, the grandstands cost $15, and children 12 and under are free.
Big Diamond is a 3/8 mile clay oval located just outside of Minersville PA in Forestville PA. For travel information and other important speedway facts, visit the official website - www.bigdiamondraceway.com.

RICHIE "TOBY" TOBIAS JR!

Richie Tobias tried to put the Gagliardo #66 into the Freedom 76 last saturday night. While Richie didn't have much luck, it sure was good to see him back behind the wheel of a modified again! Tobias will once again be heading to Syracuse for Super Dirt Week driving the Bob Lineman USA-1 big block modified.
Here is the report from Jamie at ClubWago:
Richie Tobias- After almost winning the 2007 Rite-Aid 200 for Bob Lineman Racing, Lineman announced that they were folding their big block program to focus on Bob Lineman Jr’s sportsman career. After one year, the Lineman team is back and chasing the Rite-Aid 200 crown. With the same car they used in 2007, but with a brand new big block motor, expect this team to run up front all week long, despite the fact that this will be Tobias’ first start in a dirt modified since running only a handful of starts before blowing the motor last year driving for Vince Gagliardo.

TOMMY SCHEETZ

Tommy Scheetz picked up the win in the Minuteman 20 at the running of the BPG Freedom 76. Tommy has been missing from action most of the season. Not really sure why? Good to see him back in victory lane!

Duane Howard WILL be going to Syracuse! BUT, he will only be taking along his helmet and suit in search of a ride as reported by Jamie at ClubWago. He is a guaranteed starter for the race! (Bruce Thomas photo)

SYRACUSE NEWS!

Jeff Strunk and the Gagliardo team WILL be heading to Super Dirt Week with a big-block only for Jeff to run! Jeff has been working diligently day and night getting the car prepared! That is GREAT news!
10 former winners of the race will be attending this year. They include, Richie Tobias, Kenny Brightbill, Brett Hearn, Danny Johnson, Vic Coffey, Frank Cozze, Tim Fuller, Billy Decker, and Kenny Tremont.
All of this information I have recieved has been confirmed thanks to Jamie at ClubWago! http://clubwago.blogspot.com/ I will be posting news and updates from Jamie over the next few weeks leading up to Super Dirt Week!

CONTROVERSY!

"Controversy", to say the least describes these pictures! Did Ryan Godown run CVD a little dirty? Did Strunky force Ryan up the track which in turn moved Ryan into CVD? Did Ryan not know that CVD was next to him? Was it just a racing accident? Should Ryan have not been sent to the rear?I guess you will get opinions from each and everyone you talk to about what they thought really happened. All I know is that it was ugly and CVD could have really been hurt. That sudden stop of the car in the fence was nothing less than scary. It also cranked me up that he was in 2nd place and had a true shot at winning the Freedom 76! I have watched the excellent video from Gary Silverman and disected this over and over. Click the link to watch the Freedom 76 highlights. http://gspvideo.com/2009/09/grandview-speedway-september-19-2009/#more-571 (Brent Smith photos)

MEME DESANTIS WINS THE FREEDOM 76!

DESANTIS WINS $20,000 BPG RACING FREEDOM 76 AT GRANDVIEW
Meme DeSantis looked like a sure bet for a second place finish on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway. With Duane Howard leading with just eight laps to go in the BPG Racing Freedom 76 Modified Classic a left front flat tire forced him to the pits giving the lead and the $20,000 win to DeSantis. In victory lane DeSantis told the huge crowd on hand, “I did notice that Howard had a tire going down and I hate to say it but I was hoping that it would go flat.”
Apparently his hopes came true and he was able to garner his second career Freedom 76 victory. Jon Kellner Sr. took the early lead but that was short lived as his Banes Roofing No.8 modified broke on the fourth lap giving the lead to Ryan Godown. For the next 15 laps Godown was in charge but on the 20th circuit Jeff Strunk, Craig VonDohren and Godown went into turn three side by side with VonDohren ending up crashing and Godown getting the blame and being sent to the back of the field. Strunk was the leader on the restart.
After a couple more restarts it was Jeff Strunk in front and holding the top spot until the 26th circuit when Duane Howard got the top spot on a restart after a caution for a spinning Stewart Friesen. Once in front it looked like Howard was going to have an easy time on his way for his fourth Freedom 76 win. However with eight laps to go the flat tire sent him to the pits giving the lead to DeSantis who went on to win. Second spot went to Doug Manmiller followed by Jeff Strunk, Mike Gular and Billy Pauch Jr. Duane Howard came back to finish 11th.
The BFP Speciality/Pioneer Pole Buildings Cash Dash was won by Shawn Reimert while Tommy Scheetz Jr. got the win in the Minuteman 20.
BPG RACING FREEDOM 76 MODIFIED CLASSIC: 1. Meme DeSantis 2. Doug Manmiller 3. Jeff Strunk 4. Mike Gular 5. Billy Pauch Jr. 6. Tommy Scheetz Jr. 7. Stewart Friesen 8. John Willman 9. Jimmy Horton 10. ANOTHER GRANDVIEW SEASON COMES TO AN END!

Here is a pic from March 27th, 2009 practice day. This is where our season at Grandview began, and tonite our season will come to and end! Bittersweet is the word that come's to mind to describe the end of the 2009 season. This may be the 1st season that I have not missed a race in some time. I even made it to all the T.O.T.H. show's! Gotta thank my wife for that one! The kids also made the most of the season, missing very few. What a great night to end the season on with the running of the Freedom 76! How depressing it will be tomorrow knowing the season has come to an end. Only Syracuse to look forward too. That will bring the finish of our racing season to a close. It was a good year!

LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN!

OK, I think I am safe to say that we WILL finally see the running of the BPG Freedom 76 tomorrow night! The weather looks beautiful! Don't forget to get there early to check out Freedom Fest which is taking place near the pit entrance area from 1:00 to 4:00. We'll see you tomorrow for Grandview's "GRANDADDY OF THEM ALL".
(Bruce Thomas photo)

JASON HAMILTON!

Jason Hamilton has had a very quiet campaign this season. The team went through many tough nights at "The Hill" this season. Jason and the Beer City #15 still managed a 10th place finish in the point standings. Not too shabby for a rough and tumble year. I am hoping Jason can make some noise in the Freedom 76 tomorrow night. That would cap off a good finish to the season for the team.
Go get em' Jason! (Bob Yurko photo) Click to enlarge

NOW AT STATE STORES EVERYWHERE!

TOM MAYBERRY!

Tom Mayberry the 1987 Penn National Speedway point champion. Tom ran the famous John Zemaitas Zemko #1 to capture the title. Tom will be returning this saturday night to Grandview Speedway's running of the Freedom 76. Tom does have a Freedom 76 win to his credit, but it was some 20 years ago! Mayberry will be piloting the Mike DiNatale #11D in an effort to bring home the big prize. Good Luck Tom! (Photo courtesy Bruce Thomas) Click to enlarge!

THE 114!

Check out this #114! Still Cheatin'. Gotta love the hangin' nuggets! LOL!

JIMMY HORTON!

Here is a shot of Doug Manmiller in the Dick Biever 14 at Grandview Speedway. Doug ran the Biever car at Big Diamond Raceway this season. This saturday night, Jimmy Horton will be behind the wheel of a similar looking #14 trying to win the Freedom 76. Having invaders at the sixer makes the interest level rise. I am sure most of you agree that you love having the invaders, but don't want them to come in and take home the big prize! (Brent Smith photo)

BILLY PAUCH SR!

Here is Billy "THE KID" Pauch back in 1985 after winning the Lebanon Valley 100 at Penn National Speedway. Billy drove the D.A. Hanson #134 to victory that evening. Thanks to Bruce Thomas for this photo. Will Billy be able to make it to Grandview saturday night for the Freedom 76? Billy has to run a point race first at New Egypt and then will attempt to make it to Grandview in time to tag the end of the field since he is a guaranteed starter! I would think this would be a phenomenal feat if he pulls it off! Click to enlarge

MIKE & MARIO!

Here is a great picture of our buddy Mike Folk who now hails out of California! Mike got a chance to meet Mario Andretti in San Diego at an opening of a Firestone Car Care Center. Mike asked Mario if he ever raced at Grandview Speedway or heard of Cowpatty Nation. Mario replied,"I never did get a chance to race at Grandview, but he knew that Cowpatty Nation was alive and well in our great state of Pennsylvania".

NAME THIS DRIVER!

Can anyone name this driver? This was one cool looking car. This driver also had a brother that was very successfull at modified racing.
(Jim Biehl Photo) Click to enlarge

LET'S GO EAGLES!

Brian Westbrook is in for a big day rushing to the edges and also catching the ball. He should be fresh enough after missing the preseason. The Panthers are vulnerable up front and that not only means success for Westbrook, it also means Donovan McNabb will have the time to throw and locate DeSean Jackson for a TD.
The Panthers will rely on the running game as DeAngelo Williams assumes a heavy load. The Eagles may play conservatively to not give up big plays, so Williams can stack up a lot of yards, even if he doesn't get loose for a long run. He is an obvious must-start. Steve Smith won't produce as hoped because CB Asante Samuel will limit his opportunities to make big plays.

Since 11:00 a.m. the rains have subsided for the time being and the winds have really picked up! Local weather is calling for a 40% chance of morning showers and 20% chance of an evening shower.
We shall see what becomes of this storm as time passes. I personally like the odds of racing tomorrow. Weatherman BVT even predicts some sunshine tomorrow afternoon for FreedomFest! "CPN" will be setting up tomorrow morning bright and early at 7:30 in the parking lot. Be sure to stop by and say "HI" if you get a chance. We'll be stationed just outside of the turn 4 exit gate into the open parking area a bit. Just by the BIG (and only) tree out there! See you then! (Bruce Thomas photo)
