A CHRISTMAS STORY CLASSIC!

FOLLOW SANTA AND HIS JOURNEY "LIVE"!

How we track Santa

NORAD uses four high-tech systems to track Santa – radar, satellites, Santa Cams and fighter jets.

Tracking Santa starts with the NORAD radar system called the North Warning System. This powerful radar system consists of 47 installations strung across the northern border of North America. On Christmas Eve, NORAD monitors the radar systems continuously for indications that Santa Claus has left the North Pole.

The moment that radar indicates Santa has lifted off, we use our second detection system. Satellites positioned in geo-synchronous orbit at 22,300 miles from the Earth’s surface are equipped with infrared sensors, which enable them to detect heat. Amazingly, Rudolph's bright red nose gives off an infrared signature, which allow our satellites to detect Rudolph and Santa

The third tracking system is the Santa Cam network. We began using it in 1998, which is the year we put our Santa Tracking program on the internet. Santa Cams are ultra-cool, high-tech, high-speed digital cameras that are pre-positioned at many locations around the world. NORAD only uses these cameras once a year on Christmas Eve. The cameras capture images and videos of Santa and his reindeer as they make their journey around the world.

The fourth system is made up of fighter jets. Canadian NORAD fighter pilots flying the CF-18 intercept and welcome Santa to North America. In the United States, American NORAD fighter pilots in either the F-15 or the F-16 get the thrill of flying alongside Santa and his famous reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and, of course, Rudolph.

EAGLES PLOW THROUGH THE 49ERS TO GAIN PLAYOFF BERTH!

The Eagles gained a playoff berth sunday with a win over the 49ers. The Eagles win keeps them on top of the NFC east, and moved their record to 10-4.

The defense played exceptionally well and forced the 49ers to turn the ball over 4 times. The 49ers were 0-11 on 3rd downs.

McNabb and the offense were alot less sharp than they have been of late. They did what they had to do and DeSean Jackson had a stellar game with 6 receptions, 140 yards recieving and a touchdown.

Next sunday the Eagles face the Denver Broncos at home at 4:15.

EAGLES SNOWSTORM REPORT!

Game time for 49ers-Eagles changed
CLICK LINK BELOW TO SEE THE LIVE REPORT!

Kickoff for Sunday's game between the 49ers and Eagles in Philadelphia has been moved to 4:15 p.m. ET from 1 p.m. ET.
The primary purpose of the change was to give city and stadium workers more time to prepare Lincoln Financial Stadium and the surrounding area for the game. Don Smolenski, the Eagles' senior vice president and chief financial officer, said more than 1,000 workers will work on preparing the facility for the game.
"We're going to do what we can to make it the best it can be," Smolenski told the team's official Web site. "Regardless of the expense, we're going to do whatever it takes to get the stadium and the field ready for the teams."
The 49ers beat the snowstorm by one day as they arrived in Philadelphia on Friday night. They held their Saturday walk-through at the Eagles' indoor practice bubble.

2009 BIG DIAMOND SEASON IN REVIEW!

Ya gotta check out all the action from Big Diamond Raceway on this DVD from Gary Silverman and GSP Productions. Check it out: http://gspvideo.com/

ROY "DOC" HALLADAY

All it took was four teams, $60 million and a swap of Cy Young Award winners to finish off Roy Halladay's long and winding trade saga.
He landed right where he wanted to pitch, with the two-time NL champion Philadelphia Phillies.

In one of baseball's biggest trades involving top pitchers, the Phillies sent postseason ace Cliff Lee to Seattle and acquired Halladay from Toronto on Wednesday as part of a complicated, four-team deal.
"This is where we wanted to be," Halladay said at Citizens Bank Park. "It was an easy decision for me. Once the opportunity came up for me to be part of this, it was something I couldn't pass up."

RICHIE "TOBY" TOBIAS JR!

Rich "TOBY" Tobias will return to Big Block Modified action in 2010. Tobias has decided that he will do battle in the "Super Dirt Series", which traditionally fields some of the best East Coast Big Block Modified drivers of all time.

Making this return even more interesting is the fact that Tobias has secured the Official Rule Book from the Series, and is already in the planning stages of non other then producing from the ground up, a brand new "Tobias Built Chassis". The new chassis will be built just for the Super Dirt Series, and knowing Tobias, it will carry some very new inovations while of course staying within the written Rule Book.

This will mark the first Modified "Tobias" built chassis to be produced in the Speedway Entertainment Race Shop which is located in Myerstown, PA. Right now plans are looking for Rich to race in the traditional Tobias colors, while using the famed #17 to make it official.

DOUG HOFFMAN

Doug Hoffman has teamed up again with Chad Sinon and BPG racing for some special shows for 2010 at Grandview Speedway. Here is Doug a couple years ago as he readies his 60 Over for warm-ups prior to the running of the Freedom 76. Doug had a terrific run that day finishing in 2nd place behind Craig Von Dohren. Doug seemed to find something late in that race and was on the move. We may witness some more of that action this season at "THE HILL". (Bruce Thomas photo)

JOHNNY REA!

Here is a pic of Ryan Godown from last year's running of the Freedom 76 at Grandview. The R-1 is owned by good guy Johnny Rea. Godown informed Johnny that he would not be returning to the seat of the R-1 for 2010.
The Godown/Rea team had their up's and down's in 2009. The team did win 2 of the 3 BIG races during the season. The Forrest Rogers Memorial and the Coalcracker 100 brought the team big pay days!
Johnny recently worked out a deal for Rick "Scooby" Laubach to pilot the car at Big Diamond Raceway for the 2010 season on friday nights. Laubach was the 2009 New Egypt Speedway champion on saturday nights. Rick will return to New Egypt next year to defend his title. The Rea/Laubach R-1 will only run T.O.T.H. events for the 2010 season.

THIS IS GREAT!

"Good news is that I truly out did myself this year with my Christmas decorations. The bad news is that I had to take him down after 2 days. I had more people come screaming up to my house than ever. Great stories. But two things made me take it down.
First , the cops advised me that it would cause traffic accidents as they almost wrecked when they drove by. Second , a 55 year old lady grabbed the 75 pound ladder almost killed herself putting it against my house and didn't realize it was fake until she climbed to the top (she was not happy). By the way , she was one of many people who attempted to do that. My yard couldn't take it either. I have more than a few tire tracks where people literally drove up my yard."

BILLY SCHINKEL

Here we have retired hotshoe, Billy Schinkel. Billy was always a threat to win on the Tri-Track circuit. Billy carried the Ken's Tire sponsor as does Billy Pauch Jr. in recent years. Billy always had clean looking rides that carried his #714. (Bruce Thomas collection) Click to enlarge!

DAVID & BUZZIE REUTIMANN!

I recently recieved an e-mail from a former Cowpatty that now resides in sunny Florida. Mike Griesemer sent me a few great pictures of the Reutimann's when the family had an open house at their race shop!

Mike grew up in Oley and mentioned he could smell the Howard's farm if the wind was blowing in the right (or wrong) direction! Haha!

Mike also made it over to East Bay Raceway to witness David win the modified feature. I will be posting a few more pics in days to come.

Just wanted to thank Mike for the pictures and being a fellow Cowpatty that checks out the "Nation" whenever possible!

JOHN WILLMAN NEWS UPDATE!

John Willman wins multiple awards at Grandview Speedway Banquet

NASCAR sportsman modified race car driver, John Willman, went to the Grandview speedway banquet on December 5, 2009, knowing he was going to win an award for finishing in fourteenth position in the modified points chase. However he was surprised to win not one but two additional awards.
Willman, from Birdsboro, Pa, was recognized at the Grandview Groove Most Popular driver in the Modified Division as voted on by the fans of the Berks County clay Oval. “To win this award with guys like Strunk, VonDohren and others racing there weekly is really an honor,” said Willman, “I appreciate that many fans like my style of racing and they must think I’m pretty good.” Willman did well enough at the regular Saturday night speedway to finish fourteenth in overall points. The speedway usually gets between 45 and 50 cars every night.
The second award Willman received was the Sportsmanship Award. “I’m equally as moved to be given this recognition because this award is voted on by the track officials. I race hard every night out and I always strive to do the best that I possibly can. I learned a lot from people around me and I race with the professionalism and respect that I know the sport deserves.” There is usually a line of car owners and drivers at Willman’s small open trailer from the time he gets to the track till the end of the evening looking for information or advice on chassis setups and shocks. During the night if someone needs parts to keep racing, that the parts truck is out of, racers come to see John
because if he doesn’t have it he will know someone in the pits who does. Willman also sells parts, oil, fuel and repairs parts to help other people keep racing.
“I’m really excited about the 2010 season already,” said Willman with a smile, “ I had a good meeting with a potential major sponsor and I’m hoping to work out a marketing plan with them in the next two weeks.”
“I have my 2009 Bicknell car that I ran last season and I’m getting a new frame in a few weeks. I’ll have two cars ready for action at Big Diamond and Grandview next year. My Lombardo motors are ready to go and I’m looking forward to next season.”
Willman will be entering 2010 with the best equipment he has ever had. With the sponsorship coming together the “Ultimate Underdog” is poised to move up in the point standings and is working hard toward next year. Information about John Willman motorsports can be found at johnwillmanmotorsports74w.com. (Brent Smith photo)

GRANDVIEW YOUNG GUNS!

Here are the "BIG 3" up and coming Young Guns that hit the modified scene last year at the Grandview Speedway banquet. From left to right pictured are; A.J. Desantis, Rookie of the Year Addison Meitzler and Kyle Follweiler. These 3 did an awesome job last year in their first year of competition! It just goes to show you that the acorn does not fall far from the tree when it comes to driving a dirt modified. Their respective fathers were, and still are some of the most talented drivers to grace the dirt tracks of Pennsylvania! (Bruce Thomas photo)
