BPG RACING JOINS WITH TIM FULLER FOR WoO TOUR!
Capping a whirlwind week that began with his decision to part ways with John Wight’s Gypsum Express team, Fuller announced on Monday that he has put together his own dirt Late Model effort with primary sponsorship assistance from Chad Sinon’s North Wales, Pa.-based BPG Inc. and will enter this weekend’s WoO LMS doubleheader at Hartford (Mich.) Motor Speedway (Fri., April 29) and Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, Ky. (Sat., April 30).
With racing on the WoO LMS being key to his existence as a fulltime professional racer, Fuller sought other options to remain a tour regular. He found his savior in Blue Bell, Pa.’s Sinon, a longtime owner of big-block and 358-Modifieds that compete at tracks in eastern Pennsylvania and surrounding areas.
Sinon, 45, read about Fuller’s situation in an Area Auto Racing News article and decided to reach out to the New Yorker. A couple weeks later Sinon agreed to sign on as Fuller’s main benefactor, opening the door for Fuller to attempt his own WoO LMS assault.
“Chad was the key guy to allow me to buy a car and keep going on my own,” Fuller said of Sinon, who flirted with making a foray into dirt Late Model racing in the past (including some sponsorship conversations with Fuller a few years ago). “All I can say is that he made my 2011 a lot more promising than it was looking. I really had nowhere to turn until he called.
“He told me he just wanted to keep me going. He said that after a year like we had in 2009 (seven WoO LMS wins, including a record-tying four in a row), I shouldn’t be struggling and running at the back of the pack.”
“I just wanted to help Tim get back on the track as quick as possible,” said Sinon, who serves as president of BPG Inc., a family-owned and -operated specialty distributor with over 30 years of expertise in mechanical and electro-mechanical component sourcing and application design. “He made a commitment to run with the World of Outlaws and wants to keep it, and I’m happy to help him do that. I’ve always liked and respected Tim and I just decided that getting involved with him was something different that I wanted to try.
“I’m really looking forward to this. It’s a break from the open-wheel deal, a cool opportunity. I’ve never seen a World of Outlaws Late Model show in person, but I know how popular the series is and I’m excited to try and get out and see a few of Tim’s races this year. It’s going to be fun – just two old Modified guys getting together to try to run with the World of Outlaws.
“Tim is too talented to be running the way he has,” added Sinon, who has also given Fuller an open invitation to drive one of his team’s Modifieds in special events that fit Fuller’s schedule. “He’s shown he can run up front and win World of Outlaws races and he just needs to be in the right situation to do it again.
“My hope is to try and get him back to where he was a couple years ago. Coming off the situation he’s been in and considering that the season has already started, this is going to be a building year for him. But he has the talent and hopefully in the future this could get bigger.” (Jason Walls photo)

GRANDVIEW RESPONDS TO MOTOR ISSUES!
ALLEGED ILLEGAL ENGINE ISSUES ADDRESSED BY GRANDVIEW MANAGEMENT
BECHTELSVILLE, PA April 26, 2011 . . . After a thorough investigation that addressed the alleged illegal engine situation at Grandview Speedway, management has announced that effective immediately the “big bore-short stroke” engines that may be being used by a small number of 358 Modified teams have been found to be illegal based on the Grandview Speedway rule book.
“We have had meetings with a number of engine builders who have been kind enough to share their time and expertise with us,” said Grandview Speedway owner Bruce Rogers. “With their help we have been able to discover that the engines in question do not completely conform to the rules in place at our track and are outlined in our rule book and we are taking action.
“If this issue had been brought to our attention, rather than insinuated through rumors and hearsay lacking proof, we would have taken these steps even sooner and we would have been able to avoid the needless and certainly unhelpful media exposure that seems to have been centered on our speedway. We do want to thank all those who assisted us during this investigation.”
Effective immediately speedway officials will be carefully scrutinizing engines on a random basis and anyone caught running an illegal engine or any illegal equipment will be severely penalized.

EXPLAINING BIG BORE...SHORT STROKE ENGINES!

SHORT STROKE...
With a wide bore comes a wide combustion chamber and greater flexibility in designing valve layout.
This increased intake area permits greater engine efficiency, higher rpm and more horsepower.
Normally, more horsepower means more heat. The big-bore, short-stroke engine has the answer for that. Because a short-stroke engine's pistons travel less distance per revolution, piston speed is reduced. With lowered piston speed, there's less than normal heat build-up from friction at any given rpm, less piston wear and reduced piston fatigue from heat.
The short-stroke engine uses shorter connecting rods so it can be made lighter and more compact.
It revs higher, allows for multiple-valve head design and produces more power.

GRANDVIEW CANCELS RACING 4/16
BECHTELSVILLE, PA April 16, 2011 . . . The forecast of heavy rain, the kind that had Noah building an arc and herding the animals two by two, bone chilling cold weather plus strong winds forced promoter Bruce Rogers to cancel the Saturday night doubleheader show of stock car racing at Grandview Speedway. The doubleheader would have included the NASCAR Whelen All American Series 358 Modifieds and Late Models in action.
“Let’s hope that is the first and last rainout for the 2011 season,” said Rogers. “We made the call to cancel based on the forecast that had an 80 to 100% chance of rain. We don‘t usually call them this early but with the cost of gas and such a strong forecast for bad weather we wanted to allow our fans and racers to make other plans.”

JACK SWAIN
Jack Swain is a newcomer to Grandview Speedway this season. Jack looked very good on opening day qualifying for the feature. I am sure that Jack has been racing before, just not sure where? I would like to know where Jack's racing career was before Grandview. If anyone knows...please post a remark on the message board. Thanks! (Doug Ayres photo)
