GRANDVIEW MODIFIED CHAMPION DUANE HOWARD! (Bob Yurko photo)
Thousands of dollars in point fund money was paid out to top performers with
Duane Howard and his car owner going home with more than $10,000 for their
championship winning efforts with the 358 Modifieds.
Howard and his wife will be guests of the track owners, Bruce and Theresa Rogers, on a nine day Caribbean cruise along with more than 90 others who have ties to the NASCAR sanctioned track.
Howard, Schutz and Brad Brightbill have been invited to the NASCAR Hall of Fame in early December for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series National awards function. Howard is honored as track and Pennsylvania champion while Schutz gains the National Division II Dirt Finalist honors and Brightbill takes the national honors for the Division III Finalist Dirt honors.
Fred Woodward, representing the American Racer Tire Cup Championship Series, handed out checks and awards totaling more than $20,000 with Duane Howard taking home more than $15,000 for winning the title.

NEW OWNERSHIP @ BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY (Joe Adams logo)
Tuesday, October 23th, 2012
marked a historic day in the over 40 year history of Big Diamond
Speedway. For the first time in track history, the historic 3/8th's mile
oval, formerly a 1/3 mile oval, will no longer be owned or promoted by
founder Fritz Roehrig and his wife Krista. The speedway has been sold to
new owner Jake Smulley; who along with his wife Jasmine, will promote
the facility beginning with the 2013 racing season. As most people know,
Fritz has been battling some health issues the past few years that have
made it very difficult to perform the endless day to day operations
required to run a racetrack. Ending the season with a very successful
Coalcracker 72 weekend, the time seemed right to sell the facility and
pass the reigns over to new ownership. Jake and Jasmine are dedicated to
Big Diamond Speedway remaining the "place to be" on Friday evening to see the best racing in the area for 40 more years and beyond.
When entering the track using the newly designed entrance to the speedway, fans and competitors alike will once again feel excitement in the air each and every Friday evening. Plans are already underway for the 2013 schedule, which will include the headlining "ground-pounding" 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, and the always entertaining "full fendered frenzy" Roadrunner division. The 358 Modifieds will continue to race for a "best on the east coast" $2,750.00 to win a regular 25 lap feature. Sportsman will be racing for $600.00 to win a regular 20 lap event, while the Roadrunners will compete for $225.00 for their weekly 20 lap feature. Plans for several visiting divisions to compliment the Friday evening shows, along with several other special races are in the works. Already in place is an eight race Friday night Street Stock series. Division sponsors are already in place for the Sportsman and Roadrunners. For the 3rd consecutive year, U.S.S Achey, Inc. Iron and Metal Processors from Schuylkill Haven returns as the sponsor for the Sportsman division. They can be reached at www.ussachey.com or 570-366-0781 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 570-366-0781 end_of_the_skype_highlighting. New to the Roadrunners, Savage 61 Dodge comes on board as the new division sponsor. Located at the intersection of routes 222 and 61 in Reading, they can be reached at www.savage61dodge.com or 877-360-7850 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 877-360-7850 end_of_the_skype_highlighting.
Giveaways for both fans and drivers, a new track logo, an updated website (currently under construction), new handicapping rules, cash dashes, more driver nicknames, more merchandise vendors, an old timers night, wall of fame, and many other items are being discussed as potential changes for the 2013 season to make the track more fan and competitor friendly. Traditional races like the Georgie Stevenson Memorial and Coalcracker weekend will remain on the schedule, but with some possible new twists. More details about all the exciting activities at Big Diamond Speedway will be released as they become available. We do know that an open test and tune for all divisions plus an Enduro is scheduled for Sunday, March 17th, 2013. Opening day for the 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, and Roadrunners will be the following Sunday, March 24th, 2013. On opening day, the 358 Modifeids will be competing for $3,500.00 to win and $300.00 to take the green. Exact details and starting times for these two dates will be finalized and announced in the next few weeks. New ownership is also committed to a full season of racing on the Little Diamond Speedway. Details on the exact night and divisions for Little Diamond Speedway are still being discussed but hope to be announced soon. You can rest assured that both Big and Little Diamond Speedways plan to be around for a very long time.
