GRANDVIEW SET FOR PRACTICE DAY, TIRE SITUATION ADDRESSED
BECHTELSVILLE,
PA March 26, 2014 . . . As long as the weather person cooperates dozens of race
cars, all types, are expected to take to the track at Grandview Speedway on
Saturday, March 29th at noon. The free-to-the-public practice session
will offer racers from a variety of different divisions of competition the
opportunity to test and tune their new equipment for the 2014 season and fans
will have the opportunity to see what their favorites have to
offer.
Speedway management has also announced a change in their tire situation
for the 2014 season. It had been said that tires stamped with BGP would not be
allowed in competition after Memorial Day weekend. Track owner Bruce Rogers and
Lias Tire (manufacturer of American Racer tires) have decided to allow the use
of BGP stamped tires for the entire 2014 season but suggest that teams go to the
new GVIEW stamped tire as soon as possible.
“We want to allow the racers a fair amount of tire to use the older BGP
tires and did not want to have racers face a financial hardship by forcing them
to go to the newer GVIEW tire early in the season,” said track owner Bruce
Rogers. “We feel this is a fair way to handle the tire
situation.”
The free-to-the-public practice session allows fans to enjoy the action
from the grandstands free of charge.
Everyone entering the pit area will be charged $30 but NO NASCAR license
will be required.
The chase for the lucrative point championships will get the green flag
at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 5th with a tripleheader show featuring the
NASCAR 358 Modifieds, Late Models and Sportsman stock cars. Gates open at 5 p.m.
Adult admission will be $15 while youngsters 12 and under will be admitted
FREE.
Season tickets, priced at $350, will be available. The season ticket
includes a reserved seat for all the Saturday night events run between April 5
and the end of September.
NASCAR pit licenses for the drivers and owners in the 358 Modified
division will be $200 for the season while owners and drivers in the Late Model
and Sportsman divisions will pay $100.
Pit admission for the regular Saturday night NASCAR events will run
$30.
Grandview Speedway, a banked one-third-mile clay track, is located on

Capturing the Best of Show Award was the always immaculate looking #T102 Sportsman car driven by long time track supporter Tim Fitzpatrick. At the completion of the awards, it was time for the fan favorite tire change completion. This was the fourth consecutive year for the tire change contest, and each year it has grown from two teams the first year to a total of eight teams competing this year. When the dust had settled, it was the team of former Sportsman driver Jordan Dreher and Dwayne Weist winning with a time of 1 minute 10.81 seconds over the second place team of Roadrunner driver Glenn “Buckshot” Rowan and his wife Melissa Rowan with a time of 1 minute 19.19 seconds. A great time was had by all, and plans now begin for the 2015 Big Diamond Speedway Car Show.
Friday, April 4th is the 2nd annual Money in the Mountains big block/small block challenge race going 40 laps for $7,500 to win and $500 to take the green. A strong field of cars is expected for this event, with verbal commitments already received from Billy Decker, Pat Ward, Larry Wight, Stewart Friesen, Mike Mahaney, Matt Billings, Sammy Piazza, Chad Brachmann, Anthony Perrego, and many more invaders, ready to take on track regulars Craig Von Dohren, Jeff Strunk, Doug Manmiller, Kevin Albert Jr., Dale Hartz, Shawn Fitzpatrick, and many, many more. Gates open at 5 pm and first heat hits the track at 8:15 pm. Also on the card that evening will be the Jeremy Slifko Fabrication Services Late Models, making their 2014 season debut, along with the Savage 61 Roadrunners. Each of these divisions will go 20 laps in their respective feature events.
Over $750 in lap money has been collected for this event, including the Jeremy Slifko Fabrication Service Halfway Bonus paying $150 to the leader of lap #20. Two other awards to be handed out that evening will be to the benefit of two drivers who fail to qualify for the feature event that evening. The 2nd annual Fans of Big Diamond/Dog Pound Hard Luck Award will award $730 to the driver voted on by track management as having the hardest luck of the evening that kept them from making the field. New this year is the “Long” Haul Award, which will award $125 to the driver that failed to qualify but had the longest tow to get to the track. It’s shaping up to be another fantastic race, and we hope to see you there.
