GRANDVIEW RACER MIKE BAILEY REMEMBERED, SERVICES SET (Poppa Pepper photo)

POPULAR GRANDVIEW STOCK CAR RACER MIKE BAILEY DEAD AT 39, SERVICES SET FOR AUGUST 3-4

He sat in the No. 81 NASCAR 358 Modified, the same car he drove to an impressive second place finish at Grandview on Saturday night, anxious to see if he could get a win.

Mike Bailey had been away from stock car racing at Grandview for a few seasons. He got back in the Dennis and Joanne Bailey owned Modified several weeks back. It was a struggle for a while but this past Saturday it all seemed to come together with the second place finish.

On Tuesday night Mike had earned a starting spot in the Thunder on the Hill Modified feature and sat in his race car on the track waiting for the event to get the green flag. Suddenly the veteran racer slumped over the steering wheel. Emergency crews rushed to his aid. He was quickly removed from the car and rushed to the hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The good natured racer, 39, was popular with fans and racers. He had one feature win to his credit in the NASCAR 358 Modifieds and was always considered a threat to finish up in a top spot.
The Bailey Family, including Mike’s parents Randy and Donna Bailey, have been huge supporters of the sport going back many years.
Mike, who made his home in Kutztown as did much of the Bailey family, leaves behind a wife, Melissa and three children (Madison, Eli and Reese).
Bruce and Teresa Rogers, owners of Grandview Speedway along with Thunder on the Hill promotional partners Bob and Donna Miller along with all involved with auto racing at Grandview extend their deepest sympathies to the Bailey Family.
“It is such a shock to have someone that you have seen grow up in the sport, a fixture over the years at our track, pass away at such a young age,” said Bruce Rogers. “He will be missed by all that are involved with racing at Grandview.”
The viewing for Mike Bailey is set for Monday, August 3 with calling time being 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ludwig Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich St. Kutztown, PA. Calling time will again take place at 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4th with services taking place at 11:00 a.m.

Fun Day For Dan Green And The #46 At Little Anthony's Pizza And Grille! (SDS Photo)

Bechtelsville, PA – Saturday started out to be a fun day at one of G & H Motorsports' sponsors as Little Anthony's Pizza and Grille in Honey Brook, PA hosted Dan Green and the #46 NASCAR BRC Dirt Late Model for a meet and greet event. It was a fun day as there was a steady stream of fans who stopped by to get a close up view of the car with plenty of kids having an opportunity to sit in the drivers seat. Congratulations to Anthony Hunt who won 2 general admission tickets to watch a race compliments of Grandview Speedway. The team would like to thank Dan Stanford and his staff for having us there.

With the show over it was off to Grandview Speedway for the nights racing events. Dan was scheduled to start 8th in the first 8 lap heat race for the late models. As the pole sitter, Shawn Horning #8M chose to start in the rear Dan moved to the 7th starting spot. After the green flag dropped Dan moved into 6th as he got by Joe “Geezer” Fanelli #22 and three laps later got by Lou Egrie Jr #4e to take 5th. As soon as Dan pasted Dave Ogin #31 for 4th he hit a slick spot on the track and was unable to keep the car from going around, the caution came out and he had to restart in 10th. With 2 laps left in the event Dan was able to pass, Horning, Devin Frey #F62 and Fanelli to finish in the 7th spot at the checkered.

G & H Motorsports team members of Jim Alexander, Cathy Green, Debbie Dutter, Jesse Bivins and Brett Higginbotham knew what to do to get the Hot Rod Processing #46 ready for the feature event.

The Atlas Paving 25 Lap NASCAR BRC Late Model feature lined-up with Dan starting 12th. The green flag was thrown and Dan made a steady run forward passing Cory Merkel #16 and Rick Todorow #93 and was in the process of passing Bill Henning #80 before a lap 4 caution. When the green came back out Dan drove to the inside of Henning and was going after Steve Gross #62 as Gross got loose and spun in front of him. With nowhere to go Dan was collected in the spin as other cars continued into Dan and the accident. Contact was made from Henning in the left rear and it caused the suspension to flip around and get locked in the wrong direction. The WIX Filter's #46 needed the hook and was finished for the night after 5 laps. With the early exit from the feature Dan was credited with a  17th place finish but was still able to keep his 4th place in the season long point standings. Congratulations to Chuck Schultz #1 for his 3rd win of the season as he continues to lead the points for the Late Models.

Next event for the G & H Motorsports team is Saturday August 1, 2015 at Grandview Speedway for the racing starting at 7 PM. On August 8, 2015 the team and Dan will be at Just Mom's Ice Cream and Grille, 1050 N Manor Rd, Honey Brook, PA for a meet and greet before heading to the races that night.

Fourth Place Feature Finish For Dan Green And The Scott Select #46! (SDS Photo)

Bechtelsville, PA – After finishing in the Top 10 the last couple weeks Dan and the G & H Motorsports team were hungry to get back in the Top 5 to show how fast the #46 NASCAR BRC Dirt Late Model was. The day was hot and humid as the team went to Grandview Speedway for the 7 PM start time that included the T.P. Trailer's Modifieds. BRC Late Models, Sportsman and the Vintage Cars.

The 8 Lap Heat Race did not start well for Dan as he dropped back from his 6th starting spot to 8th by lap 3. The bad start was not due to any mechanical issue it was just Dan on the outside and not being able to get going, but as the 4th lap was completed he was heading forward. Dan was able to get by Steve Gross #62 on lap 7 and just edged by Bill Henning #80 at the checkered to finish 5th.

The night's G & H Motorsports team members of Scott Green, Jim Alexander, Cathy Green, Debbie Dutter, Bob Higginbotham and Brett Higginbotham went to work doing the regular changes to the Auman Photography #46. The Vintage cars were on the program tonight so the team had a couple more minutes to get the car ready, but rain was in the area so the track moved the show along as best they could.

The Hatfield Quality Meats 25 Lap NASCAR BRC Late Model feature lined-up with Dan starting 8th. On the first start Dan moved past Kory Fleming #704 and Kyle Merkel #0 before he got to turn 3 but the yellow flag came out before the lap could be completed so it was a complete restart. The next go round stayed green as Dan was able to hold his spot. As the race continued Dan was able to move forward getting by Lou Egrie Jr #4e then Dave Ogin #31 by lap 6. Fleming and Henning were next as Dan ran 4th at lap 11. K. Merkel ran 3rd and with the track a one lane track he had to follow and see if the #0 made a mistake. The race was green the rest of the way as Cory Merkel #16 picked up his second career win and first of 2015. Dan continues a strong stand of 4th in the season long points battle and was able to pick up some valuable points on the top 3.

Next event for the G & H Motorsports team is Saturday July 25, 2015 at Little Anthony's Pizza and Grille in Honey Brook, PA from 12 – 3 PM as the #46 will be on display before the team heads to Grandview Speedway for the racing events starting at 7 PM.

Syracuse’s Moody Mile Not Dead Yet

The future of auto racing on the New York State Fairgrounds mile in Syracuse, N.Y., might be on life support, but it’s not dead.
A comment made by Acting Fair Director Troy Waffner during a recent Syracuse Channel 9 interview appeared to tell viewers that the frontstretch main grandstand was going to be officially torn down.
That, however, is not the case – at least not yet.
“I said it was publicly known that the grandstand was coming down,” said Waffner in an AARN interview last Thursday.
“What I should have said was that it is publicly known that this is the last year paid grandstand-style concerts will be held at the fairgrounds.”
In promoting this year’s New York State Fair, which will be held August 27 through Labor Day, September 7, the Fair is holding a series of “Throwback” events in front of the grandstand which feature lower ticket prices. These will be the last paid concerts held in front of the grandstand. The Fair and Onondaga County had already announced plans to move all concerts to the new amphitheater on Onondaga Lake next year when that project is completed.
“No decision has been made one way or the other regarding the race track or the grandstand,” said Waffner. “We’re still in the middle of the master plan process. The God’s honest truth is the plan changes every day.”
October’s Super DIRT Week will go on as scheduled this year. Race fans hope it will continue for much longer. Waffner gives us in motorsports some hope that the “Moody Mile” or a smaller sized version could continue for years to come.

He said that while New York State has granted them $50 million for renovations, that money is expected to fall short in building everything that had been originally envisioned.
“$50 million sounds like a lot,” said Waffner, “but it’s not a lot of money when you start building. We’re trying to figure out what we can do for the money.”
Look for an official announcement to come at the fair when political officials, such as the governor of New York, could be part of the presentation. Waffner told AARN a draft of the master plan could be released in advance to allow for public opinion. He expected the building time line and final rendering to be released on the first day of the fair.
“We’re definitely hoping to have a plan by the fair,” Waffner finalized.
