$53,000 Speed Showcase Weekend Announced for Port Royal Speedway October 15-17 (Brent Smith Photo)

PORT ROYAL, PA – The ‘Speed Showcase’ has grown significantly.
After being postponed by COVID-19 regulations in March, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco ‘Speed Showcase’ at Port Royal Speedway was rescheduled to mid-October. Now, the event has reached epic proportions for big-block/small-block Modified teams.
The ‘Speed Showcase 200’ weekend will now take place Thursday-Saturday, October 15-17 at the Speed Palace, headlined by a 200-lap event offering $53,000 to win from a total purse structure of more than $125,000.
The event takes the place of the scheduled Fonda 200 weekend at Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway, originally slated for September 17-19 at the Track of Champions. Regulations in place by the New York State Democratic Party and Governor Cuomo will not allow for the 200 at Fonda this season.
BD Motorsports Media LLC will present the replacement ‘Speed Showcase 200’ at Port Royal, providing teams with a huge payday.

“With the events unfolding in New York State, it has become clear the Fonda 200 was not going to be a possibility,” STSS organizer Brett Deyo said. “We’re hoping to recreate the excitement of the Fonda 200 at a facility that is widely recognized as one of the best in the entire country.”
STSS South Region rules will be utilized for this event. The race format will be identical to that used last year in the return of the 200 at Fonda Speedway.
Crate 602 Sportsman will also be included in the event, running a 50-lap event with $2,500 reserved for the winner.
BD Motorsports Media LLC has been working with management of Port Royal Speedway to outline a full schedule of events for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Sunday will be reserved as a rain date.
“We’re finalizing all the details currently, but we wanted to get the word out to fans and competitors to save the dates and make plans to be part of history,” Deyo said. “Just like anything else in the year 2020, we are evolving with restrictions and regulations to keep dirt Modifieds on the track and fans in the stands.”
Pricing, times and a schedule of events will be released in the coming weeks as details are finalized.
Camping and advanced ticket sales will go on sale following the completion of the Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway on Monday, September 14.
The Short Track Super Series has visited Port Royal Speedway twice in its history during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Ryan Watt was the victor on October 12, 2018 over David Van Horn, Duane Howard, Brandon Grosso and Craig Von Dohren.
On March 24, 2019, Anthony Perrego bested Matt Sheppard, Mat Williamson, Danny Bouc and Brett Hearn for the triumph.

GUYER, PAUCH, LUCAS, WELLER AND TODOROW VICTORIOUS IN OUTLAW ENDURO SERIES RACING; GARRIS, AND THE CASSEL'S WIN VINTAGE CAR EVENTS...By Gary Lileck

August 21, 2020 - Points racing continued this past Friday evening for the Outlaw Enduro Series at Bechtelsville's Grandview Speedway. A fresh set of faces in 2020 graced victory lane in each of the four classes as there are still no repeat winners in this year's events including non-point races. Racing will continue in less than two weeks, Friday night September 4th as the battle for championship glory continues.

Travis Guyer (Ivyland) started the evening off strongly with a victory in the opening 50-lap Enduro for the Big Car class. This particular event was originally rained out back on Sept. 28 2019. After several attempts to complete the contest, it was finally made official this past Friday. T. Guyer, the 2017 champion, registered his sixth career win at Grandview in the event.

T. Guyer drew inside pole for the start and quickly asserted himself into the early race lead. Aaron Frazier, from sixth, swiftly advanced into the front five early and followed T. Guyer into the runner-up spot on lap two. Second year racer Dylan Schantz, who originally began from 12th, asserted himself into the third spot on lap five. The running order remained unchanged until the 24th tour when Schantz advanced into second. The race only required two stoppages and T. Guyer remained on top from wire to wire.

Schantz finished second in his first appearance of 2020 while veteran racer Chuck Keely worked past A. Frazier during the race's second half to claim the third spot. 11th place starter Tim Pauch rounded out the top five. Sixth spot was claimed by Bob Wink over Pat Hires, Joe Kunkel, Chuck Detweiler and Justen Steigerwalt.

In the regularly scheduled 60-lap Big Car Enduro, Brandon Guyer immediately placed his machine into the lead from the outside pole. Sixth starter Pauch of Stockton NJ made his way into the second spot and passed B. Guyer for the lead on lap 10. Pauch, the eight-time Enduro champion at Grandview Speedway, went on to capture his 23rd career victory at the 1/3 mile oval which is first on the all-time career winner's list. Pauch is the brother of famed dirt modified and sprint car legend Billy Pauch and uncle of current Modified star Billy Pauch Jr.

B. Guyer, who was the season opening race winner, settled for second while his brother T. Guyer concluded a highly successful night in third, Kunkel competed within the front five during the entire 60-laps and finished fourth while Schantz nailed down his second top five of the night with a final finish of fifth. Rounding out the top ten were: Rob Longo, Wink, A. Frazier, Rick Todorow and Walt Lemmon.

The 75-lap Small Car Enduro found Jeremy Krauss grabbing the early lead. Defending champion Brian Moyer, who started eighth, moved into the runner-up spot on lap 17. Tyler Lucas, from 21st, grabbed third on lap 30 and engaged in a superb battle with Moyer for the runner-up spot. They soon joined Krauss for a race lead duel. Moyer claimed the lead on lap 38 and Lucas stormed up front past Moyer on the 43rd lap. Moyer reclaimed possession of the top spot with 62 laps on the counter. Unfortunately Moyer was involved in a tangle on lap 67 while leading and was forced to retire from the event. Lucas of Wiconisco held on to capture his fifth career Grandview small car triumph.

Krauss settled for second with 2016 champion Matt Peck claiming the third spot. 17th starter Tyler Schmeltzle finished fourth ahead of veteran racer Linsey Rummel. The second five consisted of: newcomer Dracon Lewis, Kelly Frantz, Rob Pyle, Gary Grim and Brian Moyer.

Twenty cars took the green flag for the start of the 50-lap JunkYard Car Enduro with former champion Phil Levering grabbing the early lead. Opening Day winner John Bilofsky started 11th and followed Levering into the second position on lap nine. After a good battle, Bilofsky passed Levering for the lead on lap 18. Austin Weller of Green Lane worked past Levering for second with 28 laps on the counter. Weller wasn't fiinished as he stormed ahead of Bilofsky to take command of the field. Weller held on to seize his first ever JunkYard Car divisional victory in the Reading Rocket Russ Smith tribute car No. 11A.

Levering settled a classic stategical war between himself and Bilofsky with a hard earned second place finish. Points leader Bilofsky claimed thid over Levering's teamate Linsey Rummel. Glenn Carter posted his second top five of the year with a fifth place effort. Rounding out the top ten were: John Rose, Brian Kunkel, Andrew Wolf, Roger Gaskill and Russell Hilbert.

The mechanics race found a familiar face to Grandview Speedway, Steve Todorow, piloting the Rick Todorow No. 9 to a 15-lap race win. Steve is a former Limited Late Model competitor at the speedway.

Second generation racing talent Andy Cassel of Boyertown drove to an impressive victory in the 15-lap Outlaw Vintage Series main event. A. Cassel started fifth and passed early race leader Dominique Deglas with an amazing outside lane move on lap seven. Despite a caution flag with only one lap remaining, A. Cassel was able to defeat his father Wes Cassel at the line. Scott Schaeffer finished third ahead of Lincoln (PA) Speedway feature winner earlier this year Jeff Paulson and former 16-time Silver Spring Speedway Late Model feature winner Gene Wrightstone.

17 cars competed in two heat races earlier in the evening with wins going to J. Paulson and W. Cassel.

The Blast From the Past Vintage Stock cars were also part of the card this past Friday night. The 15-lap B-Group main event was won by Mike "The Critter" Garris Sr. of Orefield.  Garris passed earlier leader Cale Mutter, a former 600 Micro Sprint competitor, on lap three. Garris drives the original Ken Erney coupe that competed at the old Dorney Park Speedway over 40 years ago. Bill Gerhart finished third ahead of Matt Smith and Myron Haydt.

Although he finished second in the Outlaw Vintage race,  Boyertown's Wes Cassel wired the field in the 15-lap A-Goup feature. Cassel competed at Grandview back in the 1970s and drives a car that looks very similar with his traditional No, 28c. W. Cassel held off former champion Kevin Kuser, who has been assigned to drive the Phillips Motorsports-55 this year. A. Cassel finished third over Deglas and Gerhart.

The Outlaw Enduro Series, Outlaw Vintage Series and Blast From the Past returns to Grandview Speedway in less than two weeks, Friday September 4th. Pit gates open at 4:00PM with grandstands at 6:00PM and racing begins at 7:00PM. As always a great deal at the general admission booth takes place as GA is only $10. Kids 12 and under are free.
