NEW AND FAMILIAR FACES GRACE VICTORY LANE IN OUTLAW RACING SERIES OPENER AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY...By Gary Lileck
Bechtelsville PA - March 20, 2021 - The first day of Spring symbolized the 2021 Outlaw Enduro Series season opener this past Saturday Afternoon at Grandview Speedway. Jeremy Krauss of Fleetwood won a hard fought Small Car Enduro while Dylan Schantz of Red Hill posted his first career victory in the Big Car Enduro. John Rose of Gilbertsville was victorious in the JunkYard endurance race while other winners included: Mike Stofflet of Topton (Outlaw Vintage Modified), Dominique Deglas of Telford (Outlaw Vintage Sportsman) and Mike Gorton of Newtown (Enduro-Car Mechanics Race).
By luck of the draw Krauss started inside front row for the start of the 75-lap Small Car event. Krauss, twice a winner last season, later contended with Downingtown's Rob Pyle who rallied from the back of the field. During the event's final laps, Pyle took the top spot via an inside lane pass. Krauss soon moved to the bottom in the fourth corner and wrestled the top spot away from Pyle. Krauss held on to capture the victory by a mere 0.170 second margin over Pyle in the Brian Moyer Motorsports car.
Chris Rose of Gilbertsville started second and held off multi-time champion and the division's all time win leader Phil Levering of Parkerford to finish third. John Bilofsky of Allentown advanced from 15th to a final finishing position of fifth. The top five cars each finished on the lead lap.
The 75-lap Big Car race lined up with the number one starting spot remaining open in honor of the legendary Tim Pauch. This past off-season, Tim sadly passed away, and the Big Car class certainly will never be the same without the 8-time champion in the field. Outlaw Enduro Series honored Tim with the missing man formation for the pole starting spot.
By luck of the draw, area racer Dylan Schantz started 11th and methodically worked his way through the field. Schantz would win the event on a lap of his own. Mike Fiskaldo of Temple, always a strong competitor, finished in the runner-up spot. Jamie Naftzinger of Reading was up to second, dropped to fifth after contact sent him to the infield. He returned to the race and finished third behind Fiskaldo. Veteran endurance racer Joe Kunkel of Alburtis powered from ninth to a final finishing position of fourth.Scott Lord of Auburn enjoyed a successful afternoon of racing as he remained within the top five to finish fifth.
In the JunkYard Car 50-lap race, John Rose steered his $300 gutted out Chevy Cavalier to a hard earned victory after starting from 11th, It was Rose's third career JunkYard division triumph. Roger Gaskill of Aldan finished second followed by Brian Kunkel of Nesquehoning, John Bilofsky and Tyler Bilofsky.
Mike Gorton won the Mechanics Race behind the wheel of former Big Car champion Travis Guyer's No. 25 machine. His teammate Doug Guyer, a former enduro racer at the Flemington Fairgrounds, finished second.
Mike Stofflet once won a 50-lap dirt modified race at the paved Mahoning Valley (PA) Speedway. As a matter of fact in the past he enjoyed much success there. Stofflet has been competing with the Outlaw Vintage Series and opened up the 2021 season with a victory in the Modified class this past Saturday afternoon. Stofflet, driving for car owner Larry Sullivan, was followed by Flemington NJ's Bobby Hall in the beautiful Doug Hoffman tribute car-60. Scott Schaeffer of Birdsboro rounded out the top three.
The famed Rio Brothers Modified housed many top name racers over the years. The vintage Sportsman driven by Dominique Deglass represents the R10 car formerly driven by Paul Fitzcharles. Deglas, a race winner at Grandview in the past, took the Sportsman feature race victory over Mike Garris Sr. of Orefield in the original Dorney Park Speedway Ken Erney Coupe-3 and Myron Haydt of Allentown behind the wheel of the Charley Gilmore tribute 7-car.
Just a reminder that the Grandview Speedway will be holding an open practice session this Saturday March 27th. It begins at 12:00PM.
