WEEKLY NOTES!

What a beautiful night for racing it was! Sunny skies and a little warmer than expected, more like a early summer night with no sweatshirt or jacket was needed! Mr. Modified (Steve) was along for the night and Eric's friend Dan or Danimal as he is known for his highly touted work ethic was also along. Missing was Fire Marshall Doug, who was mountain bound for the weekend! I thought he may have had some action when Bill Gensler ended up on his roof on the backstretch! Everyone was sporting their Cowpatty wear proudly! Scott Hoffmaster got his CPN shirt last nite! Thanks Scott! Another 25+ shirts go on order tomorrow! You will even see Bob Miller's wife Donna sporting a CPN shirt in the near future!
Talked to CVD while he was headed into the track and questioned where his CPN sticker was?? While he seemed unsure said he will take care of that sticker for next week...we shall see? Jeff Strunk who also has a sticker along with Danny Erb were nowhere to be seen?? Maybe next week? That "15" sure looks good with sporting the CPN! THANKS!
Kelsey and Brandon were also along last night and truely gaining great interests in the sport! Gotta love it! Brandon (Eric's son) is a Duane Howard fan, while Kelsey (my daughter) is a die-hard Jason Hamilton fan! Kelsey was so upset at Jason's heart breaking finish last nite she actually shed a few tears that he was going to pack up and leave before we saw him pitside! Jason came through in a HUGE way, making a point to talk to Kelsey and you should have seen her face...PRICELESS! I wish I had the video camera rolling for that one! She is still talking about it today! She kept saying, "Jason will make a good Dad"! Those Beer City shirts are sweet looking!
The Rogers kept after the racing surface all night long with water and grading that created an awesome race track come feature time! Little dusty, but you are at a dirt track!! Billy Pauch Jr looked strong last night and who knows, may have won the feature till he had fuel pump problems come lap 25 of the feature! Talked to Billy in the pits after the race. What a great kid, always smiling and upbeat. He will get a win this year! CVD inherited the lead on lap 25 and looked stout all nite to take home the big money with some heat from Duane Howard who finished 2nd!! Craig also won his heat race convincingly! Shawn Reimert and Jason Hamilton also looked real strong with both drivers prepared to take home top 5's till they hooked together and spun in the waning moments of the feature. Tough break for those guys!
Tom Umbenhauer put together an excellent 3rd place finish! Kevin Hirthler looked very good again finishing 4th while Jeff Strunk rounded out the top 5. Mike Gular used his provisional and put it to good use bringing the Terry Fastnacht 53 home to a 6th place finish! Gular has been remarkable this year! Brian Shuey was once again the class of the late model field winning for the 2nd time this season! Way to go Brian!
All and all a good night at "THE HILL". Start to finish was about a 3 hour show that ended at 10:03! Impressive! Plenty of time for the little kids and us BIG kids to head pitside and chat with some of our favorites! Till next week...NEW start time...7:30! Keep on Cowpattying!

CVD WINS!

Craig Von Dohren was the big winner last night in the modified division at Grandview Speedway! CVD coming from the 12th starting position took command of the race on lap 25 when Billy Pauch Jr while leading dropped from the competition with a fuel pump problem! Craig took control with Duane Howard in hot pursuit to add another feature win to his credit collecting $2250 for his winning efforts! (Click to enlarge) (Brent Smith photo)

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND!

What a beautiful weekend for some dirt track racing! Clear skies right through sunday night will make for some great racing at Big Diamond on friday and sunday nights and Grandview saturday night! High temps reaching 86 tomorrow and sunday. Lows down in the high 50's at night! PERFECT!
I dont know but something tells me the "Ringoes Rocket"/ "Topside Terror" Ryan Godown will have a real nice weekend! With all the bad luck he has had, this weekend gets turned around for him! Keep an eye on that Johnny Rea R1 to pocket some cabbage this weekend! (Photo Brent Smith) (Click to enlarge)

KEVIN HIRTHLER!

Here is Kevin Hirthler in victory lane courtesy of Bob Yurko! Kevin was one happy camper after his win! Kevin couldnt get out of that sweet looking 117 fast enough! Kevin praised the Bicknell chassis and his crew for his victory! Kevin also stated that he beat the best last night in Jeff Strunk & Duane Howard who were runner-ups! No arguement from me Kevin...you truly earned that win!
(Click to enlarge) (Bob Yurko Photo)

GRANDVIEW NOTES!

What an action packed night at "THE HILL" last night! Beautiful weather had the place packed! We started out the night with a visit to Jason Hamilton. Jason is a "Cowpatty" fan and was kind enough to grace his Hot Rod with a fresh off the press "Cowpatty Nation" sticker! Bob Yurko (as mentioned in the below post) was nothing less than awesome in helping us outas we chatted with him pitside!

The track conditions were on the rough side in the early going with alot of rubber put down through the mid to lower sections of the track. Kenny had the grader out and created a much better racing surface come feature time with multiple grooves. Us fans took a pretty good dirt bath thru-out the evening with no complaints from me due to the awesome racing! I mentioned to Eric that Kevin Hirthler could wire the field before the feature started. Little did I know? What a fantastic feature it was with Kevin taking control and leading many laps! As the race progressed Jeff Strunk in his "Red Rocket" and the "Duane Train" Howard moved into contention. Strunk took over the lead later in the race getting by Hirthler. We all thought "Night-Night get the light" this thing is over with Jeff picking up his 1st win at Grandview for the Gagliardo family! Not so said Hirthler. Kevin throttled the potent 117 Bicknell past Jeff on a lap 9 restart and took command and held it running the cushion (which by this time was all the way up against the boiler-plate!!) Jeff & Duane were hawking Kevin but never able to take command! Congrats Kevin on your win! Kevin was torqued in victory lane climbing atop his 117's roof in celebration!

Great runs by Strunk & Howard to finish 2 & 3rd. CVD went pitside early and and returned to finish a fine 5th place! Sean Merkel picked up the "Hard Charger award coming from 29th to 12th! Randy Stoudt looked stout taking the Late Model feature convincingly. Tough nights for both previous champions Chuck Schutz and Brian Shuey! Missing was Greg Hoffmaster, oh and Scott we've got your "CPN" shirt for ya!

We traveled pitside after the features. Missed chatting with "Erwinna Extreme" on his night and the CVD compound as always was packed with fans! Traveled down to see the Gagaliardo/Strunk crew to pleasantly surprised by running into good friend and Cowpatty follower Steve Bucks who is a big Vince fan and frequents the shop weekly! Steve was nice enough to introduce me to Vince Sr and a few other members! Vince is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and told me it is now "FUN" for him at the race track! If anyone is deserving of the racing gods looking over him...its Vince! Thanks for the good stories and getting a chance to talk to you last night! Good Luck to everyone on your team this season and the 1st win at Grandview is right around the corner!

We also journeyed down to visit the Erb family and what a pleasure that was!! Janet Erb (Danny's Mom) was incredibly nice! She had some excellent stories and goings on with racing in general and Danny that were good to hear! Danny had one rough night getting tore up in his heat race. The cars whole rear end was torn up and unable to return to racing for the evening. We met Danny a couple years back up at Rolling Wheels during Super Dirt week along with Kyle Weiss. Danny is one of the nicest guys around and we wish him luck getting his Banos brothers 44 back on the track next week sporting a "Cowpatty Nation sticker on that Lombardo powered hot rod! All and all an excellent night on "The Hill"!

BOB YURKO!

Just wanted to give out a BIG "THANK YOU" to Bob Yurko! We met up with Bob pre-race last nite. Bob loves checking out Cowpatty Nation. Bob got us some good pictures last nite and does an excellent job for dirt track racing in general!
Bob asked if we had seen the RCN telecast of the Grandview opener, and that RANDY KANE mentioned Cowpatty Nation during the telecast! WOW! THANKS A BUNCH RANDY! I havent had a chance to see it yet, but need to catch that one!
We gave Bob his very own Cowpatty Nation t-shirt for all his efforts to help us out last night. Bob also took a few Cowpatty stickers and you will hopefully see them on some of the race cars in the near future! Thanks again Bob, and I am really looking forward to seeing some of those pictures so I can share them with the "Cowpatty Nation".

CVD!

REMEMBER THIS?

This is a picture from last season when Stewart Friesen lost his mind while racing at Big Diamond! He got spun out between turns 1 & 2 and just flipped! He thought it was Kurt "Lil "Dude" Spotts that took him out. I am not sure who it was, but Kurt took Stu's heat! Stu proceded to get out of his car and jump up on Spott's car and jump up and down thus doing the pictured damage to the hood of Kurt's car! Stu sure does have a short fuse! I think that drive must have been getting to him on a week to week basis?

Here is a composite picture of Mike Kelly, tech inspector at Grandview Speedway! This is shot of Mike wheeling the #35 car back in the day! I remember Mike in a yellow and orange #4 car (also pictured above) that was rocket fast! I think this may have been Butch Green in the car at this time at Reading fairgrounds? Mike may have ran the car after Butch at Grandview!
Maybe if Mike saw this he could fill us in a little better?

GRANDVIEW CANCELLED!

GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY FALLS VICTIM TO RAIN
The tripleheader show of NASCAR stock car racing scheduled for this evening, Saturday, April 11th, has been canceled due to the continuing rain.
“Even if it stopped the track has taken so much water it would be impossible to get it in shape for racing by the 7 p.m. starting time,” said promoter Bruce Rogers. “It is always disappointing to have to call a show off but there is just no telling when the rain will stop.”
Stock car racing will return to Grandview Speedway on Saturday, April 18th with the Auto Locator Magazine sponsored NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models doubleheader. Racing will start at 7 p.m.
At present there is no new date set for the Sidewinder Sprints to make up this rained out event

UNBELIEVABLE! The rain FINALLY moves out and the racing for tonite gets cancelled? I have watched the radar all morning and the last of it has moved out! With windy conditions and the skies called for clearing I am a little shocked about the call!!

NAME THAT DRIVER!

Can anyone name the driver of this car pictured here at Penn National Speedway? This guy got around all 3 tracks real well back in the Tri-Track days! This driver grew up right down the street from me in Hatfield, PA!

WEEKLY NOTES!

Well, it took me a while...but I wanted to throw a few comments in before the next race! What a nasty cold night it was last week at Grandview! The winds were clocking in at 40+ m.p.h.! The track was in decent shape with all things considered. Kenny did his best to eliminate the ruts and create a top and bottom racing surface! I thought we were in some trouble when the front-stretch lights went out! Kenny scaled that fence in no time to check it out! Duane Howard seemed to be the class of the field winning his heat from the 8th starting position, thus putting him on the pole with the heads-up start. Desantis-Reimert & CVD all looked good winning their respective heats. Mike Gular looked very impressive as did Shawn Reimert. Shawn had a shock tower break after a skirmish with Meme Desantis bringing a sure top 5 finish to an end. Jeff Strunk in his "Red Rocket" looked equally good coming from 15th to finish 4th. Danny Erb ran a hellava race bringing home a 6th place in the Banos brothers #44. John Willman capped off a great night with the "Hard Charger award" coming from dead last 28th to finish 9th!

There were a ton of cautions during the feature that left as I can remember only 14 cars running as the checkered flag fell! WOW, what a battle of attrition! Duane Howard had the field covered winning his 4th opener in a row! Duane stated, "the wind really didnt effect the car at all on the track" after being asked by Pete Knappenberger in victory lane. Brian Shuey captured the Late Model feature in rocket like fashion!

We were missing Captain Ron & "Mr. Modified" Steve this week as Ron did his husbandly duty and took the wife to Atlantic City for their anniversary! I think it may have been just tooo cold for Steve and he had a home project going on too! Fire Marshall Doug watched from the infield home-stretch awaiting a fire so he could stay warm...no luck! Finally had a chance to meet Scott Hoffmaster in our travels. Heckava nice guy! Scott is Greg Hoffmasters (late model driver) son who is a true Cowpatty follower! Scott did a nice job putting together the Coventry Mall race show this winter! Eric & I roughed it out in the stands! Man, had to drink those beers down quick, hard to hang onto! We traveled pitside after the race only to find practically no one left!! I cant blame the teams for getting out of there on a night like that!

Till next week...keep on Cowpattying!

GRANDVIEW OPENER PICS!

(BRENT SMITH PHOTOS)

DANNY ERB!

How impressive was Danny Erb in the Banos Brothers #44! Danny started the feature in the 9th position and brought the car home a 6th place finish! Now, this is not a new car or a new motor! He is running the back-up car to Jeremy Banos #3. He is powered by, I believe a Wide Open Technologies power plant but lacks the horses as it is only a 9:1 compression motor! Yes, attrition was a huge contributor saturday nite with all of the flat tires and other drop-outs, but Danny put together a really nice opening night for this newly formed team! THE MEITZLERS!

Here are the team cars of father & and son Terry & Addison Meitzler at Grandview Speedway! Terry a seasoned veteran will be a major player in teaching Addison the ropes! What a tough track to learn at Grandview! Terry pulled off an 11th place finish on opening night, while Addison while looking smooth, failed to qualify. Addison will be a quick learn with his driving style and one hellava teacher! (click to enlarge)
HEY! Looks like we even got Randy Kane in that photo!

DUANE HOWARD!

Duane Howard was nothing less than a ROCKETSHIP last nite! He was in a class of his own! Some may say, "Anyone can win from the pole". Duane started 8th in the 1st heat race and destroyed everyone in it...thus earning him the pole in a heads up start! I really dont think it mattered where he started! (click to enlarge)
