GRANDVIEW WINNERS CIRCLE (Brent Smith Photos)

WEEKLY COWPATTY NOTES!

Wow, is all I can say! 2 modified consi's, 2 features, then a full show in roughly 4 hours! That is amazing! What an excellent job Grandview did last night getting in all of that racing. Early on the track was in pretty rough shape. Very dry with major ruts that developed quickly. The Rogers took care of business with some grooming excellence. Grading and plenty of watering had the surface looking good real quick! Meme Desantis was the class of the field in the make-up feature holding off a hard charging Duane Howard who finished in the runner-up spot. Billy Pauch Jr ran an excellent race to finish 3rd. Billy is really getting settled in at Grandview and starting to turn some heads! Doug Manmiller came from 28th to finish 4th, and Keith Brightbill rounded out the top 5. There was alot of banging and wrecking in that 1st feature which took some time to get going. They even needed to start them single file very early in the race to avoid problems.
The late model feature had 1st time winner Wayne Pfeil taking the checkered with Randy Stoudt in hot pusuit. Always love to see a 1st time winner! It was Wayne's time, he earned that one! Stoudt was 2nd with Brian Shuey 3rd, John Geisler 4th and Ron Kline 5th. Rookie Andy Ressler was very impressive leading many early laps before being spun out! The leftover feature had Mike Kellner just obliterate the field! Mike had a half-lap advantage winning easily. Kyle Merkel was 2nd, Wayne Pfeil 3rd, Bill Henning 4th and Danny Syder rounded out the top 5.
The final modified feature had Ryan Godown taking his 1st win of the season. Ryan was overdue for some good luck and finally was granted his wish. Ryan was great in victory lane performing the roof dance. Ryan said that he will now start to play the rubbin' game with anyone who wants too! Anything it takes to get to the front! Join the crowd Ryan, you are not the only one!! Finishing 2nd was Don Norris who also had a terrific night came home 2nd. Meme Desantis was the star of the evening coming home 3rd followed by a nice run by Jason Hamilton in the Beer City #15. Duane Howard finished off the top 5 who also had a stellar night padding his point lead.
Had a nice chat with the Massey's while waiting in the ticket line. Good people! We had the kids along last night, Kelsey & Brandon who stayed the entire night! Good buddy Matt Ritter also was up in the CPN area taking in some good racin'. Wanted to thank Captain Ron for hooking up Kelsey on their trip to the souvenier stand. Also wanted thank Ron for not trying that Triple Lindy off the top of the bleachers as SpiderDan suggested! I think he may need a net for that one! Captain Ron had some friends up with us last nite and managed to get Fire Marshall Doug to walk a few CPN t-shirts across the track to Ron for his buddies.
After all the racing action we wandered pitside. It was nice that the modifieds feature ran last so we were able to see them in the pit area. Kelsey and I talked with Ben Moyer & Billy Pauch Jr. Billy was nice enough to shake Kelsey's hand and she really liked that! I gave Ben & Billy a couple of CPN stickers for that #8 to display! Ben always has some interesting news and insight on the happenings at the speedway! Good talking with you Ben & Billy! I'll have your CPN shirts for you in a couple of weeks. Kelsey then pulled me down to her favorite driver Jason Hamilton. Jason is a great guy and had a few words for Kelsey, which made her night. Jason was also due for a good night after some early season struggles. Josh Bitner's buddy Drew made an awesome banner of Jason that they hang on the fence. Really cool. Drew offered to make one for Jason and one for Kelsey! Super nice Drew...thanks alot! Bert Jones of Beer City is doing the Billy Pauch driving school at Grandview today! Bert is a great guy, if have never met him, you really should! Hope ya did ok there Ricky Bobby! A real fun night! Till next week...keep on Cowpattying!

ANYBODY WANT A COLD ONE?

First shirts...then a banner...then hats...next BEER! Wonder if we could brew up a batch of some Cowpatty Beer?

NEW COWPATTY NATION HATS!

This is obviously a rough draft of what the hats will look like! The hats will be black flex-fit hats in sizes S-M (6 3/4 to 7 1/4) or L-XL (7 1/8 to 7 5/8). We will also have the website along the back bottom edge of the hat. It will all be embroidered! We are now taking orders for hats! We need to order a minimum of 12 which I do not think will be a problem. The hats will take approximately 3-4 weeks. The hats will be $20 per hat. We are asking if you would'nt mind paying for the hats up front to save some $$$ out of our pockets...if possible? Let me know if you are interested? You can e-mail direct at vols22@comcast.net! Thanks!

NAME THIS DRIVER!

Here is an older pic back in the days at Penn National Speedway. This red #9 got around the place pretty well. He also campaigned at Big Diamond on a regular basis. I am not sure why he got out of racing? He was always up front! Can you name him?

I HEAR SOME THUNDER!

And I dont mean that kind of thunder! We have had enough of that! Next tuesday the USAC boys come rolling into Bechtelsville for a night of spectacular open wheel racing! I personally love to watch these guys "hang it out". It is so cool how these guys throw those wingless sprinters into the corner lookin' out the side of the car! Plenty of BIG names will be at "THE HILL". Hopefully we will see Billy "THE KID" Pauch our local favorite in action. Billy uses the direct approach against these guys. He drives the car in, more like a bottom feeder and works his knowledge of Grandview to perfection. Billy always gets the hometown fans on their feet! They will be running 2-25 lap features. Along with the ARDC wingless midgets. What a fantastic night of racing it will be!

NICE TANK TOP LADY!

Can you believe this? Look close and you'll see what I mean! I hate to see what the front looks like! Now this gives you an idea for a birthday present for your wife or girlfriend! PRICELESS!

JEFF STRUNK!

Here is a cool composite picture by Bob Yurko. This is really cool showing the driver and the race car! This is a good shot of the Bechtelsville Bullet in action at Grandview! Jeff has not produced a win for the Gagliardo team as of yet at Grandview, but is on the verge of breaking through! Rumor has it that their next Teo Pro car will have a different paint and lettering scheme. The team feels it blends in too easily with the other cars on the track! Look for some brighter, bolder (yellow) colors to grace the "41" in upcoming days!

BIG DIAMOND WAS RAINED AND FOGGED OUT!

A thunderstorm and then fog halted Big Diamond Raceway's sunday special event last nite! Hopefully they are able to complete tonite's event! Weather has played a major role recently in the weekly dirt track wars at both Big Diamond and Grandview! Grandview has 3 features to make up! 2 will be made up next week along with a regular show of events!(Click to enlarge)

DOUG HOFFMAN QUITS THE HANSELL 357!

Word is that Doug Hoffman has left the #357 of Norm Hansell after saturday's race at Grandview Speedway! Doug may be running some special shows with the BPG/Chad Sinon team in the near future? Jamie from ClubWago broke this new on: http://clubwago.blogspot.com/. We all had an idea that this would happen before the year began, but hoped it would all work out? I guess the frustration of not being a contender from week to week got the best of Doug! Late news is that Doug wanted Norm to purchase a TEO chassis instead of the Bicknell they were using. I guess Norm was against this idea, thus leading the departure of Hoffman. Maybe we will see "SLICK" Rick Schaffer back in the #357 at the Hill next week? Time will tell! (Brent Smith photo)

THANKS JEFF!

A quick shout out to Jeff for picking up a couple of Cowpatty stickers for that sharp looking white push truck of his! And also supporting CPN with a t-shirt! Jeff always does a great job getting those cars on and off the track! Here is a shot of Jeff in action! Click to enlarge!

WEEKLY COWPATTY NOTES!

All I can say is this rain on saturday night's is getting OLD! At least we got to see the make-up feature for the modifieds! Tommy Sheetz took total control from his front row starting spot! Tommy led every lap convincinly for his 1st feature win of the season! Making up the rest of the top 5 were Ray Swinehart 2nd, Duane Howard 3rd who came from 17th, Jon Kellner Sr 4th and Jeff Strunk rounded out the top 5! All the heat races were run for the late models and modifieds with Marburger, Follweiler, Smythe and Sheetz winning the modified heats. Merkel, Shuey & Schutz picked up the late model heat wins. The late models were on the track when an electrical storm hit and knocked out power at the Bechtelsville oval. Then as the lights proceded to come back on, the rains started falling, thus ending another evening of racing! Nothing has been announced as of yet on what will take place for the completion of this event? We already have a late model feature to make up from the previous week! We shall see?
Just wanted to mention that we had Rob Massey(hope I spelled it right Rob?) stop up to see us! We have never met Rob before and he is an avid Cowpatty Nation fan! Rob & his son are weekly visitors to Grandview, and have been for years! Rob hails out of Delaware and makes the ride weekly. He mentioned that he is much closer to Bridgeport, but loves the racing action MUCH better at Grandview! Now that is something I cannot argue with!! Rob, it was GREAT to meet you and thanks alot for taking the time to stop up and say "HELLO"! The pleasure was ours chatting with you!
It was a good time as always last night even with the rains. Mr. Mod (Steve), Hook (Eric) and I took an early trip to Our Place in Gilbertsville for some pre-race wings and Blue Moons! Always a fun time to be had when Mr. Mod comes along! Met up with friend Jeff Imbody up by the pit gate! Jeff is the driver of the white pick-up push truck. He is a heckava nice guy! Jeff picked up a couple Cowpatty stickers for his truck and a t-shirt! Thanks Jeff! Thanks to "Fire Marshall" Doug for having an extra shirt along for Jeff! Also ran into buddies Dave Bitner (Ernie Irvan) and his son Josh who picked up their Cowpatty shirts! The rains cut our conversation short, but it was good to see you guys! Thats about it for this week! Till next week...keep on Cowpattying!

NAME THIS DRIVER!

Can you name this driver! This car was a flat out rocket ship! Here is a pic from Penn National Speedway. Love the paint job and colors on this car. Pretty sure this a Tobias car. This chauffeur could really get it done!

T.O.T.H. INSIDE OUT!

Here is a picture I took on wednesday night during the inside/out program at the Thunder on the Hill show! If you ever get a chance, you gotta do this! It's really cool! It gives you a totally different perspective of things. If anyone is wandering where we sit, you can see the banner pretty clearly in this picture after you click on it! That is one cool looking R-1 piloted by Ryan Godown! It seems Ryan may be turning his season around after such a horrific start! (Click to Enlarge)

HODNETT SMOKES THE OUTLAWS!

Greg Hodnett and the Posse stole the show from the World of Outlaws Friday Night!
Stevie Smith started on the pole and took the early lead with Cody Darrah second and Ryan Bohlke third. Hodnett, who started fifth, moved into third place on lap eleven.
By lap 20 he had found a fast line around the bottom of the corners. Hodnett drove by Darrah for the runnerup spot at that point, then two laps later took the lead from Smith. Once in front he rolled to the $10,000 victory ending a winless drought that stretched all the way back to July 6, 2007.
It was the 38th career win at Williams Grove for Hodnett, who moved into a 4-way tie with Todd Shaffer, Steve Kinser and the late Kenny Weld for seventh-place on the speedway's all time win list. Darrah settled for second and earned $5500. Smith faded to third, which earned him $3200.
Dave Ely turned in a strong performance to claim fourth and World of Outlaws point leader Donny Schatz completed the top five after starting 23rd. Daryn Pittman finished sixth. Sutliff Auto Group point leader Todd Shaffer was seventh with Brian Montieth eighth. Fred Rahmer earned the Coliseum Hard Charger award after moving from 28th to 9th, and Keith Kauffman completed the top ten. It was the most impressive performance in recent years for the Williams Grove regulars against the Outlaws after claiming nine of the top ten positions in the A-Main. Ryan Bohlke set fast time in qualifications with a lap of 16.814
World of Outlaws Sprint Car Feature - 30 laps - 1. Greg Hodnett, 2. Cody Darrah, 3. Stevie Smith, 4. Dave Ely, 5. Donny Schatz, 6. Daryn Pittman, 7. Toldd Shaffer, 8. Brian Montieth, 9. OUR JUNIOR COWPATTIES!

Here is a shot of our junior cowpatties, Kelsey & Brandon posing with our new banner! Now everyone knows where we hang out, so stop by and say "HI"! (Click image to enlarge)

COWPATTY NOTES!

We had a good time last night even with the rain coming down with 22 laps left in the feature causing a cancellation till next week! Yeehaa! 2 modified features next week! The late model feature will be made up on May 30th. Our night started out in a stellar way! We were standing in line for tickets and Donna Wink gave each of us a free ticket for the nights races! AWESOME! Thanks to the Wink's for the free pass as it was Wink Motorsports night! We just got our Cowpatty Nation banner and hung it proudly on the fence behind us along the frontstretch! Now everyone can see where we hang out! Stop by and say," HI" sometime! Or if your looking for a t-shirt, you know where to find us!

We had a good time hanging out with buddy Chris Noble as he picked up his "CPN" t-shirt! Dont forget to check out: http://thegreatestshowondirt.com/site/ whenever you get a chance! We all headed down to the pit gate and chatted with Brad Bidwell who is Jason Hamilton's main dude! Brad is a great guy and he also picked up a "CPN" t-shirt! Thanks Brad! Bert Jones, the owner of Beer City and main sponsor for Jason Hamilton was also there and we traded t-shirts! Bert is a hellava nice guy and I love the Beer City/Hamilton shirts! We also ran into Sidney Pfister...uh I mean Jeff Crosby...uh, now I got it, Jeff Pfister. Jeff is a MAJOR Penguin fan and surely will be rooting the Pens on in their next series against Carolina! Captain Ron had a chat with CVD along the pit gate! Apparently CVD see's the Captain walking his dog daily and makes a point to slow down and wave to Ron! Pretty cool! It was also a great pleasure to finally meet Brent Smith! What a job Brent does with that magic camera of his!! Brent, I am honored to have your blessing to use your photo's! They are excellent! Brent also picked up his "CPN" t-shirt! Jason Hamilton was upbeat after his run from the back last weekend and thinks he finally found a good set-up for the car! I agree...Jason did look good last week! And by the way you had that #15 hauling the mail again till the rain came down! Kelsey was screamin' her head off for ya!

As we headed back towards the entrance we ran into Pete Knappenberger and his wife Amy! Wednesday was Pete's 30th...uh 40th birthday! They were partying in the pavillion and invited us Cowpatties in for some pizza! Thanks guys! It was great talking with you and Happy Birthday Pete! Pete has an awesome radio show called "RACERS ROUNDTABLE". If you never heard it, check it out sometime! Listen live on: http://www.wxlv.org/ or check out the myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/racersroundtable! Pete mentioned he would give some props to Cowpatty Nation on his show and add a link to his myspace page! Thanks Pete!

Now, on to some racing! The track was very fast and as always action packed! Heat winners were: Marburger-Follweiler-Smythe & Sheetz with Godown & Gular taking the consi's. Kyle Follweiler and Tommy Sheetz just plain checked out in their respective heat races and looked superb! Late model heat winners were Merkel-Shuey & Schutz! Oh, I also talked with Brian Shuey on the way into the track. I ran karts with Brian years ago at Shellhammers. Brian is a top talent in the Late model division and a track champion! Brian said he will sport the "CPN" stickers on that Red Rocket #5 as soon as we get them in! Thanks Brian! Also, Captain Ron hooked Donna Miller (Bob's wife) up with her "CPN" shirt last nite! Cant wait till wednesday nite for the TOTH!

The kids were along last nite and had a real good time! Kelsey had a short chat with her idol, Jason Hamilton while Brandon got a nice wave from his star, Duane Howard! We were getting the kids involved in the heat action by betting a dollar on each race! They would take 2 cars and Eric and I would pick the next 2! They snookered us for $2 each last nite! Ray Swinehart Jr was also in on the fun! Ray had mentioned that Danny Erb will be out of action in the upcoming weeks due an injury at work! Hope your feeling better real soon Danny! We also got to meet "CPN" regular Kevin Moyer! Kevin is a big fan of "CPN" and a daily Fastchecker! Kevin hails out of Kutztown and is good friends of Addison & Terry Meitzler! Kevin is going to talk with Addison about getting "CPN" stickers on that #21! Thanks Kevin, and it was awesome talking with you! When the rains came, they came in a hurry as the wind really picked up and it just unloaded on us! We hope to see ya'll wednesday night for Thunder on the Hill! Till then...keep on Cowpattying!

THUNDER ON THE HILL!

Here is a couple pics of when I had the chance to ride in a push truck for a Thunder on the Hill show a couple of years ago! Thanks to Bro-in-law Steve (Mr Mod) for hooking me up! Here in these pics I am riding in Frank Snyder's orange jeep. We are pushing off Billy Pauch after a red flag stop. Pauchy won this event in the Al Hamilton #77 that night with one hellava run! You can see in the pic that Billy took his helmet off to have a quick smoke! That was one wild night to remember pushing off those 410's!

FIRE MARSHALL DOUG!

Here is a shot taken last week of Fire Marshall Doug readying himself for a night of fighting fires! Doug almost had himself some action last week as Shawn Reimerts #58 went up in flames! Doug stated, "I was ready for him with the extinguisher, but he drove right past me"! Man, always wonder if we'll really ever get to see Doug in action? That would have been a good one! Check for Doug weekly along the frontstretch behind the wall and give him a wave! (Click to enlarge)

Can you name this driver? This guy also had success in another type of race car! Much more success! I love the vega body and the goggles with the full-face helmet!
