STRUNK, VONDOHREN AND HOWARD HAVE RULED THE NASCAR MODIFIEDS AT GRANDVIEW SINCE 2000, WILL THINGS CHANGE IN 2014?

BECHTELVILLE, PA March 6, 2014 . . . Will there be someone else’s name on the NASCAR 358 Modified championship trophy at Grandview Speedway when the 2014 season is over? That is a great question.
Since 2000 when Jeff Strunk won his first track title at Grandview there has been three drivers dominate the NASCAR 358 Modified championship battles. Strunk has won nine titles since then with his last coming in 2011. Craig VonDohren has won three titles during that same period and has won seven since 1988. He is the defending champion. And Duane Howard won in 2010 and 2012. Howard also won the title in 1993, 1996 and 1997 giving him a total of five track titles.
The “big three” have accounted for a total of 21 championships between them.
All three will be back in action when the 2014 season officially gets the green flag on Saturday, April 5th at 7 p.m.
However the “big three” will have plenty of racers showing up with big plans. Doug Manmiller, always a strong campaigner, will be looking for his first Grandview title as will Kyle Weiss, Mike Gular, Kevin Hirthler, veteran Frank Cozze, young Tim Buckwalter, and others.
The last driver to win a NASCAR 358 Modified title before the “big three” started their streak was Terry Meitzler. That was back in 1999. Meitzler, a feature winner in 2013, will be looking to challenge for the championship again.
Officially action gets underway on Saturday, March 29th at 12 noon with a free-to the-public practice session giving all racers a chance to test and tune their new equipment.
The point battles for the NASCAR 358 Modifieds, Late Models and Sportsman gets started on Saturday, April 5th with a tripleheader show starting at 7 p.m. As in the past adult admission for the regular show will be $15 while youngsters 12 and under are admitted FREE.
Season tickets still remain available for $350 and that season ticket will cover a reserved seat for all Saturday night racing events starting in April and continuing through September. Mail a check payable to Grandview Speedway, 87 Wilt Road, Bechtelsville, PA 19505 and please include a self-addressed stamped envelope to speed the mailing of the pass.
Those having purchased season tickets are invited to the track on Saturday, March 15th at 1 p.m. to pick their reserved seat for the season.
Modified, Sportsman and Late Model racers are reminded that BGP stamped tires will be permitted until Memorial Day weekend. After that date only tires with the GVIEW stamp on them will be allowed for use. “This gives racers ample time to use up any tires they may presently have,” said promoter Bruce Rogers.
