Tough Luck for Langenstein in Rd.3 of the Summer Shootout (John Davison photo)

On last Tuesday night Austin Langenstein and the #7 Cray Motorsports team were back out at Charlotte Motor Speedway for Rd.3 of the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout. After a strong practice session on Monday night Austin and the team were confident heading into the race night. Austin would have a strong qualifying session but after the fan random invert Austin would line up in the 15th starting position in the strong 28 car field. Austin would go to work quickly and pass 6 cars on the opening lap and be running in the 9th spot after lap 1 was complete. The first yellow flag would come out after the #07 car would blow an engine and cause a long red flag. As the field went back green Austin would fight a very loose Cray Motorsports car and work his way into the 4th position with 5 laps to go, when another yellow flag would fly. Austin would restart on the unpreferred top line, Austin would fall back to 7th and on the last lap Austin would be battling for the 5th spot going into turn 1 when Austin would get sideways and spin trying not to wreck the other driver resulting in a disappointing 14th place finish. Austin said-" That's a disappointment, I was struggling all race long with being to loose off the corners and was loosing drive off as a result. On the last lap I was going for 5th but I got loose on entry and i tried not to wreck the other driver and I just lost it. It's a shame but I know we will go to work and be good and contend for the win next week.''
