DANNY ERB RETURNING TO NASCAR MODIFIED ACTION AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY (Doug Ayres photo)

THE FAMOUS “ERB” NAME WILL ONCE AGAIN BE PART OF THE SATURDAY NIGHT NASCAR STOCK CAR RACING ACTION AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA January 4, 2015 . . . The Erb Family has been an important part of the history of motorsports at Grandview Speedway. The late Mike Erb was a speedway legend having won the track championship in 1973, the Freedom 76 in 1974 and 14 feature events. Donny Erb raced at Grandview for a number of years and was a 6 feature winner including a win in the 1995 Freedom 76 Classic. And for quite a few years Danny Erb was a Saturday night stock car racing competitor on the one-third-mile, banked clay oval having one win to his credit.
For the last few years the Erb name has been missing from NASCAR stock car racing action on Saturday nights.
Last year the Boyertown, PA resident, with the help of his dad Mike, put together a last minute effort to compete in the Freedom 76. Though he did not qualify for the big race the memories of doing it with his dad will live with him forever. Just a short time after the race Mike passed away.
Now Danny, carrying his father’s memory, is ready to go racing on a regular basis. He and car owner Terry Fasnacht (and his wife) are putting together a NASCAR 358 Modified entry to see action every Saturday night at Grandview. Fasnacht has been away from the sport for three seasons having to battle health issues. He is now anxious to get back to racing.
“We have purchased a car from noted Modified car owner Glenn Hyneman (just 13 races run on the car) and we have the support of Eastern Rigging as they provide the engine,” said Fasnacht. “Eastern Rigging will be a sponsor along with my own business, Conestoga Valley Custom Kitchens. We are not looking for the pressure of running for a championship but just looking to have fun.
“I have always been impressed by what the Erb family has done in the sport and I want to be part of bringing the Erb name back.”
At 45, Danny still feels he has what it takes to race and be competitive at Grandview. He has been a feature winner in the past. He did win a Modified feature at the Bechtelsville clay oval back in 2005 when he was racing for Fasnacht.
Danny claims 2006 as his best season with a new car he was able to finish second in the Forrest Rogers Memorial and gained a fourth in the final point standings. He was running second in the Freedom 76 that year when mechanical gremlins put him out of the event.
“I am really looking forward to being back in action on a regular basis with a good piece of equipment,” said Erb. “Terry has always been a good car owner and great to work with. Hopefully I can get his car to victory lane. However the main thing, just as Terry said, is to have some fun.”
Erb and the Conestoga Valley Custom Kitchens/Eastern Rigging entry will be ready for action when the season kicks off at Grandview Speedway on Saturday, March 28th, with a free-to-the-public practice session that starts at noon.
